Terre di Melazzano

our Surroundings

Just a short walk down the hill takes you to the historic town of Greve in Chianti, capitol of Chianti wine production where local artisans and winemakers market their products. There are several caffes, delicatessens, wineries, restaurants, and pizzerias open all day long.

A drive into the countryside takes you to seven UNESCO world heritage landmarks and an array of small hamlets and castles - too many to list here, so we will tell you about the most important ones we think you should visit.

Places to see

Florence (30k)
Historical birthplace of the renaissance and world heritage landmark, Florence is abundant with museums, palaces, galleries, and churches, all home to the most famous masterpieces in the world.

Siena (45k)
A world heritage landmark and one of the most well-preserved medieval cities in Italy, and one of the most beautiful. The renowned Piazza Campo, Siena's central square, is shaped like an amphitheater and this is where the exciting Palio bareback horse race has been held for centuries and to this day, attracts locals and tourists alike.

San Gimignano (38k)
Another world heritage landmark known for its beautiful medieval towers creating a unique skyline at dusk. Towers were a symbol of power in the middle ages and San Gimignano had 72 of them, 14 of which remain as a reminder of the towns wealth and status.

Volterra (60k)
This is the capitol of alabaster production dating back to the Etruscans, just like the town. The alabaster museum, Etruscan museum and art gallery display numerous works of art, paintings, and handicrafts that are one of a kind.

Lucca (100k)
The defensive walls built during the renaissance that protect the city are incredibly well-preserved and embrace the historic center and cathedral. The tomb of Ilaria del Carretto dates back to the 4th century and is a must-see.

Pisa (98k)
A university town and world heritage landmark all-in-one. The Square of Miracles, Leaning Tower and the baptistery and cathedral mark the center of town swarming with visitors.

Monteriggioni (35k)
One of the most impressive Tuscan fortresses, to this day Monteriggioni is practically intact, a timeless monument to the middle ages in Tuscany. Erected atop a hill, from the walls the vistas are a breathtaking 360 degrees of Tuscan landscapes.

Things to do

Hiking and outdoor activities
Our wine farm sits on the slopes of Mount San Michele. An easy hike will take you to the peak where at 800 mt. above sea level, you can take in the awe-inspiring panorama of the Chianti countryside on the one side, and the Val D'Arno Valley on the other.
Mount San Michele is a state park with several exploration opportunities to discover on foot or by bicycle, passing through small medieval hamlets like Lamole and Volpaia. More experienced hikers can make their way to Montefioralle, a hamlet on the opposite side of Greve.
